ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should normally hold either an honours degree or equivalent qualification plus at least two years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification with at least five years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification in an area relevant to the subject of the masters degree, where study towards the award is not dependent on relevant professional experience. (This third route to admission will normally only apply to appropriate MSc options and may be restricted to holders of II.2 honours degree or higher qualifications.)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In the case of international students (from outside the European Union), it is not possible to study on a part-time basis unless you are already in the UK for other reasons and have obtained an appropriate visa. It is the student’s responsibility to check visa requirements for part-time study in the UK. We have a minimum entry point of IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent for international students.
COURSE INFORMATION
This is a professionally-oriented higher degree aimed at graduates who intend to follow a career in ELT. Students who have successfully completed the course have found it very beneficial in gaining employment. The course will enable participants to gain knowledge and skills necessary for devising and The CCEA Northern Ireland Curriculum Review: Proposals for changes to the Northern Ireland Curriculum Framework (Phase 1 consultation) (2000) states that there should be a specific programme for Personal Education and Citizenship as a statutory entitlement for all young people from Key Stages 1 to 4, with a 5% proportion of timetable allocation respectively.
The aims of this course are to provide teachers and education-related professionals with the opportunity to develop a conceptual and practical understanding of these recently proposed curriculum developments in the areas of Personal Education and Citizenship to underpin effective classroom delivery.
The award requires the study of the following modules:

230EDU766 Citizenship Education 30 M Points
The remaining modules are chosen from the wide menu of modules on offer under the whole MSc/MEd programme. A book of modules for MSc/MEd programmes will be available in March/April from our website or by contacting the Postgraduate Office.
The MSc/MEd are awarded to those students who have accumulated 180 M Points (including a dissertation equivalent to 60 M points).
On successful completion of the modules in this option, students will have;
- a comprehensive understanding of the current and past issues relating to the teaching of citizenship and personal education, locally and world-wide;
- considered critically the ideological, political, social and person dimensions of teaching personal education and citizenship;
- reflected on their own beliefs and value-base in relation to the teaching of these aspects of the curriculum and have considered the implications of addressing 'sensitive issues';
- have developed pedagogical and facilitation skills to underpin the teaching of personal education and citizenship.
