ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should normally hold either an honours degree or equivalent qualification plus at least two years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification with at least five years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification in an area relevant to the subject of the masters degree, where study towards the award is not dependent on relevant professional experience. (This third route to admission will normally only apply to appropriate MSc options and may be restricted to holders of II.2 honours degree or higher qualifications.) Please note specific entry requirements for certain courses.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In the case of international students (from outside the European Union), it is not possible to study on a part-time basis unless you are already in the UK for other reasons and have obtained an appropriate visa. It is the student’s responsibility to check visa requirements for part-time study in the UK. We have a minimum entry point of IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent for international students. COURSE INFORMATION
This course is designed for teachers who wish to extend and renew their study of education on a wide front. It offers an opportunity to further their knowledge of a variety of topics in which they have a special interest and to broaden their expertise by selecting topics which they may not have previously studied in depth.
Educational Studies is the only non-specialised course on the MEd/ MSc programme. Its aim is to offer a wide choice of modules, some of which are stage or subject-specific and others which examine more general topics and issues in education.
This course provides an opportunity for reflection on both the practical and theoretical aspects of education and is open to teachers in primary, secondary and third level institutions as well as to professionals in other fields of education.
The award requires the accumulation of 120 M points from modules which may be selected from the following list:

Modules can also be chosen from the wide menu of modules on offer under the whole MSc/MEd programme. A book of modules for MSc/MEd programmes will be available in March/April from our website or by contacting the Postgraduate Office.
The MSc/MEd are awarded to those students who have accumulated 180 M Points (including a dissertation equivalent to 60 M points).
On completion of the modules in this option students will be able to
- demonstrate a broad-based knowledge and understanding of educational research, policy, practice and theory covered by the modules of their choice.
- analyse and critically apply examples of the research literature in the chosen modules (and where appropriate, skills)
- reflect critically on their own personal practice
