FEE:Home Students - £19 per credit point (2008 – 09) International Students should refer to the Universities CLOSING DATE: Friday 13th June 2008 CATS:180 credit points at M level MODE OF STUDY AND DURATION: Part-time 2 – 5 years Full Time 1 Year (September 2008 – September 2009) ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Applicants should normally hold either an honours degree or equivalent qualification plus at least two years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification with at least five years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification in an area relevant to the subject of the masters degree, where study towards the award is not dependent on relevant professional experience.? (This third route to admission will normally only apply to appropriate MSc options and may be restricted to holders of II.2 honours degree or higher qualifications.) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS In the case of international students (from outside the European Union), it is not possible to study on a part-time basis unless you are already in the UK for other reasons and have obtained an appropriate visa. It is the student’s responsibility to check visa requirements for part-time study in the UK. We have a minimum entry point of IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent for international students. COURSE INFORMATION The purpose of this course is to provide teachers, especially those in management positions, with an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of theories and issues in school management, in order to reflect critically on their own practice and that in their school/college. The aims of this option are to encourage teachers to examine the wider social, economic and political contexts of schooling, which shape fundamentally the purposes and tasks of school managers. In particular, the aims of the option are to promote good management practice in schools in Northern Ireland and to encourage school managers to reflect critically on their practice in order to improve it. For this named award, students must accumulate at least 60 M from the study of the following core modules: 220EDU717 Leadership in Schools and Colleges 20 M Points 120EDU716 Managing Educational Change: Improving the 20 M points Effectiveness of Schools 220EDU813 Middle Management Issues: 20 M points The Role of Head of Department 120EDU916 Public Management and Education 20 M points The remaining modules are chosen from the wide menu of modules on offer under the whole MSc/MEd programme. The MSc/MEd are awarded to those students who have accumulated 180 M Points (including a dissertation equivalent to 60 M points).
