ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should normally hold either an honours degree or equivalent qualification plus at least two years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification with at least five years professional experience in an education, training or professionally relevant context; or a degree or equivalent qualification in an area relevant to the subject of the masters degree, where study towards the award is not dependent on relevant professional experience. (This third route to admission will normally only apply to appropriate MSc options and may be restricted to holders of II.2 honours degree or higher qualifications.) Please note specific entry requirements for certain courses.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
In the case of international students (from outside the European Union), it is not possible to study on a part-time basis unless you are already in the UK for other reasons and have obtained an appropriate visa. It is the student’s responsibility to check visa requirements for part-time study in the UK.? We have a minimum entry point of IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent for international students.
COURSE INFORMATION
This course sheds new light on the application of psychology to educational contexts and contemporary educational issues. The audience for the course is formal and non-formal educators, and others with an educational dimension to their work, in a range of fields and disciplines across the life-span e.g. community education, cultural, scientific, social policy, social work and health.
For educators, and others, in a range of contexts, to be able to bring enabling and empowering psychological perspectives to important real-world issues, and apply psychology in contexts where easy solutions seem illusive and hard thinking is needed in order to move forward e.g. the challenges of effective teaching-learning (conceived broadly) within 21st Century educational contexts; responding to critical incidents that impact upon children and young people; responding to inequalities within education; working towards social and educational inclusion; peacemaking and peace-building.
The award requires the accumulation of a minimum of 60 M points from the following core modules:

The remaining modules are chosen from the wide menu of modules on offer under the whole MSc/MEd programme. A book of modules for MSc/MEd programmes will be available in March/April from our website or by contacting the Postgraduate Office. The MSc/MEd are awarded to those students who have accumulated 180 M Points (including a dissertation equivalent to 60 M points).
On successful completion of the core modules for this option, students will be able to:
critically reflect on taken-for-granted assumptions about the "nature of the person" (or construction of the subject) underpinning professional practice;

understand the cultural and historically situated nature of psychology;

demonstrate knowledge and understanding of a family of ideas that overcome the dualism in traditional pschologies between "individuals and society", and, for which, burgeoning interest now spans the full range of social sciences and humanities;

demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychological models that conceptualise the individual in social terms, and understands behaviour as socially embedded and socially meaningful - and be able to relate these to their professional contexts;

demonstrate competence in applying pscychological concepts and research findings to individuals and groups in educational or related contexts;

Understand and demonstrate competence in applying psychology in pursuit of equity, diversity and effectivenerss for all within educational contexts;

be able to conduct small-scale practitioner research.
